A 35-year-old man has a fever, sore throat, rash. Let’s diagnose.

A 35-year-old man presented to the doctor with complaints of fever, sore throat, cough, diarrhea, and a rash that developed over the prior 2 days. His 2-year-old daughter, who attended daycare, had just recovered from a similar illness. On examination, the patient had a fever of 37.9°C (100.3°F) with multiple erythematous papules and some grayish vesicles on the hands and feet. Oral examination revealed scattered erosions on the oropharynx and gingiva.
