A 73-year-old woman presented to the emergency room with dizziness, presyncope, dyspnea, and heart palpitations that developed within that day. The patient expressed that she has been feeling fatigued. She had a history of anorexia nervosa and cardiac conditions – she had been on calcium channel blockers (diltiazem & verapamil) for more than 1 year to help manage her hypertension.
Electrocardiogram examination showed P waves before every QRS complex, heart rate of about 40 beats per minute, and a heart rate variability that indicated benign sinus arrhythmia. In addition, the patient’s family had a medical history of cardiac conditions. She had no recent travel history.
