A 26-year-old man presented to urgent care with severe abdominal pain and profuse, bloody diarrhea. The patient appears fatigued and mentions that they are having trouble keeping any food or liquids down and that they have had more than 10 bowel movements over the course of the last 24 hours. They recount that just a few days ago, they experienced a fever and myalgia. When asked of potential exposures, patient disclosed that they recently visited a friend’s dairy farm, about a week ago, and consumed unpasteurized milk during the private tour. Patient has no prior history of gastrointestinal disorders.
