Synopsis
Longitudinal ridging is an accentuation of the normal longitudinal relief of the nail plate. The ridges start under the cuticle and run over the whole length of the nail up to the free edge. Longitudinal ridging may be regularly interrupted, giving a beaded or melted wax appearance. Multiple ridging is common in the elderly and corresponds to the normal aging of the nail apparatus ("wrinkles of the nails").
