Synopsis

Lacrimal gland tumors account for 9% of all orbital lesions with inflammatory, lymphocytic, metastatic, or primary epithelial origin. Special consideration is made toward the primary epithelial tumors pleomorphic adenoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma, which carry malignant transformation potential. Gradual onset of unilateral proptosis with nasal globe displacement with palpable lacrimal gland mass should warrant radiologic imaging and evaluation by an oculoplastic surgeon for possible excision. The histologic diagnosis will determine the prognosis and treatment.
